ASCE's Pipelines 2007 Conference To Be Held In Boston July 8-11

Reston, VA — The American Society of Civil Engineers Pipelines Committee will be hosting Pipelines 2007: Advances & Experiences With Trenchless Pipeline Projects. This special event will highlight the latest research, provide informative case studies and examine products/tools/methods for the trenchless construction and rehabilitation of the underground piping infrastructure.

The three-day conference will be held July 8 - 11, at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel in Boston, MA. A series of specialty workshops and ASCE committee meetings will precede the conference on Sunday, July 7, and will also be held at the Westin Hotel.

Conference co-chairmen John Struzziery and Timothy Stinson, both of Cambridge, MA-based S.E.A. Consultants, and the steering committee have assembled a broad program that includes:

  • There will be 36 technical sessions with 112 papers presented, all divided into four different areas of common interest;
  • Five special workshops B Pipeline And Manhole Coating And Lining Systems, Plastic Pipe Design Concepts For Water Systems, Emerging Concepts For Design Of Pipeline Renewal Systems, ASTM B Standardizing Asset Management And Repair For Municipal Infrastructure And Design And Construction Of Pipe Ramming Projects;
  • Opening remarks by John P. Sullivan, P.E., chief engineer of the Boston Water and Sewer Commission;
  • Keynote presentation on the Evolution of Underground Construction and Trenchless Technologies by Ray Sterling, Ph.D., P.E., director for the Trenchless Technology Center;
  • A large exhibition of the latest industry products and services;
  • An awards luncheon and presentation of the 2007 ASCE Award of Excellence and the 2007 Stephen D. Bechtel Pipeline Engineering Award;
  • A clambake at the famous New England Aquarium; and
  • A technical tour of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority=s Deed Island Sewage Treatment Plant, the centerpiece of a $3.8 billion program to protect Boston Harbor against pollution from Metropolitan Boston=s sewer systems.
